(FOX40.COM) — Authorities released new details about the escape and search for an inmate who has been missing in Northern California after breaking out of jail.

39-year-old Caleb Duerr escaped from the Plumas County Jail on the morning of September 27. The jail is in Quincy, about 160 miles northeast of Sacramento.

On Monday, the Plumas County Sheriff’s Office said that he was able to “manipulate two fenced areas and flee” to an O’Reilly’s auto parts store around 8:15 a.m., where he got a ride from a customer.

The man who gave him a ride told officials that he dropped Duerr off at Highway 70 and County Road A-23, near the community of Beckworth, and he was last seen walking south on the county road between 9:30 and 10 a.m.

Since then, Duerr has contacted several people by email, which suggests that he has obtained a phone or a computer with internet access, the sheriff’s office said.

In the ongoing search, officials have gotten help from surrounding county sheriff’s offices, including from the state of Nevada, the California Highway Patrol and the U.S. Forest Service, along with other state and federal agencies.

The sheriff’s office described Duerr as measuring 6 feet 1 inch, weighing around 165 pounds, and having brown hair and blue eyes, as well as a beard.

The agency said Duerr has family and friends in California, Oregon and Nevada and has possibly left the Quincy area to get help from them.

The sheriff’s office described him as being “dangerous” and asked anyone who saw him to call 911.
