(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento County said it is opening cooling centers “due to unseasonably high temperatures for this time of year.”

Temperatures in the Sacramento area are forecast to reach 99 degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday and could get as high as 100 on Wednesday.

The county originally said three cooling centers would be open on different dates from Oct. 1 to Oct. 3 but later extended the hours as forecast temperatures remained high on Wednesday.

The Outreach and Engagement Center, at 3615 Auburn Boulevard, will operate as a cooling center from 11:00 a.m. Tuesday to 8:00 a.m. Friday.

The Sam and Bonnie Pannell Center, located at 2450 Meadowview Road, will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. this Tuesday and Thursday. Pets are not allowed at that location.

The North A Emergency Shelter, at 1400 North A Street, will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

The county said that at locations where they are allowed, pets must be on a leash or in an animal carrier.
