(FOX40.COM) — Two people were detained and accused of taking nearly two dozen Stanley cups from a sporting goods store and leading a short pursuit on Wednesday, according to Roseville Police.

The agency said in a Facebook post that officers were called in the morning about a grand theft at a sporting goods store, and that store security shared images of the suspects and their car.

“Apparently, we had very thirsty thieves due to the heat,” police said in their post.

An unmarked police vehicle was able to find the suspects’ vehicle on nearby Highway 65 and followed it onto Interstate 80 until marked patrol vehicles made a traffic stop near Riverside Avenue.

Police said that once the vehicle stopped, both suspects were detained after a short pursuit on foot.

The agency said the vehicle had damage to its grill and a paper license plate.

A picture shared by police shows a vehicle with Stanley cups on its trunk and on the ground.

The Stanley cup craze and ensuing thefts of them was in the Roseville news earlier this year when one woman was accused of stealing $2,500 worth of the cups from several businesses.

There have also been several scams reported regarding the sale and resale of coveted editions of the cups.
