Sacramento bicyclist dies after being hit by drunk driver

(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento Police Department is investigating a DUI incident that left a bicyclist dead Saturday night.

Around 11:30 p.m., SPD responded to the Marysville Boulevard and Main Avenue area for a crash between a vehicle and a bicyclist. At the scene, officers said they found a man who was pronounced dead by fire personnel. The involved vehicle fled before law enforcement arrived, however, police found him nearby.

SPD said the driver, a 53-year-old man from West Sacramento, “displayed objective signs of intoxication.” He was arrested for related charges.

The incident remains under investigation and SPD encourages any witnesses with relevant information to call (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
