(FOX40.COM) — A longtime member of a well-known search and rescue team in Northern California lost his home and four cats from a fire while he was away from his home on Oct. 7.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team shared images of what was left of longtime volunteer Alan Fowler’s home after a fire destroyed it.

Fowler was away at the search and rescue team’s monthly meeting when his home burned down.

The nine-year Search and Rescue volunteer had also recently lost fire insurance on his home for living in a wildfire-prone area.

The search and rescue team says that all Fowler has been left with is the “shirt on his back.”

A GoFundMe to help Fowler rebuild his home has raised nearly $33,000 as of Monday.
