(FOX40.COM) — A forecast of strong winds and low relative humidity has caused a red flag warning to be issued for all of the Sacramento Valley and other areas of Northern California.

From 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 p.m. Saturday, Redding to Modesto and as far west as San Francisco have been placed under the red flag warning, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasts show that the valley and foothills can expect winds between 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph. The delta is expected to see even stronger winds and gusts with speeds up to 55 mph.

These strong winds paired with low relative humidity can create conditions where fires are easier to start with a higher rate of spread.

Pacific, Gas and Electric has announced a number of public safety power shutoffs in communities across the red flag warning area.

These shutoffs are likely to begin on Thursday and continue through Saturday. Communities likely to experience the PSPS include Concow, Downieville, La Porte, Vacaville, Kyburz, Winters, Soda Springs and more.

The NWS recommends that those in the red flag warning area have an emergency plan in place in the event that a fire does force evacuations.
