(FOX40.COM) — The Sierra Nevada and Sacramento Valley are seeing their first bits of precipitation in months which is causing slippery road conditions across the region.

On Wednesday morning, the Woodland Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol Gold Run Office reported solo-vehicle crashes likely caused by slick roads.

Neither of the incidents resulted in significant injuries to the occupants of the vehicles, but first responders are advising that drivers exercise some caution on these oily roads.

Tips for driving safely in the rain:
    • Slow down and increase your following distance.
    • Use headlights to improve visibility.
    • Avoid sudden movements and hard braking.
    • Be aware of puddles that can cause hydroplaning.

The National Weather Service forecasts that the foothills and Sierra are most likely to see rain this week.

Forecasts show between 0.01 inches and 0.1 inches to fall in the foothills with Sierra expected to receive up to 0.5 inches of rain.
