SOURCES: Kings, Doug McDermott agree to deal for upcoming season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KTXL) – In the wake of Monday’s trade that sent forward Jalen McDaniels as part of a deal to the Spurs, the Kings reached an agreement on Wednesday with free agent sharpshooting forward Doug McDermott for the upcoming season, sources tell FOX40.

Those sources spoke to FOX40 on the condition of anonymity because the deal between the Kings and McDermott was not yet official.

Sacramento will be the seventh franchise the 32-year-old McDermott will play for. He’s a career 41% 3-point shooter who played last year with the Spurs and Pacers.

The 6-foot-6 forward appeared in a total of 64 games between Indiana and San Antonio, averaging 5.5 points (shooting 43% from the field, 41% from the perimeter), one rebound and one assist per contest.

McDermott, who will be entering his 11th NBA season, will add some much-needed perimeter shooting for the Kings, as well as a veteran presence. He’s reached the postseason five times with three different teams, appearing in 25 career playoff games.

Three of McDermott’s playoff seasons came with the Indiana Pacers, where he played alongside Kings center Domantas Sabonis in two of those years.

Over his career, McDermott has averaged 8.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.

Monday’s trade sent McDaniels, along with a 2031 second-round pick to San Antonio, and created a roster spot for Sacramento to sign McDermott. The Kings also acquired a 2025 top-55 protected second-round pick from the Spurs (via Chicago) in the deal, according to ESPN.

McDaniels, 26, was acquired by the Kings in June in a move that shipped Davion Mitchell, Sasha Vezenkov and a second-round pick in 2025 from Sacramento to the Toronto Raptors.
