Police said that the man’s involvement in the shootings has not been confirmed, but that they would like to speak with him. Ceres is just southeast of the city of Modesto.

Just after midnight, the first shooting, which killed a 39-year-old man, occurred along a canal bank near Mitchell and Hatch Roads.

Minutes later, another shooting happened about a mile east, leaving a 53-year-old man with a gunshot wound. That man survived his injuries.
