(FOX40.COM) — Around 2,000 Pacific Gas and Electric customers are without power in Solano County as the utility company implements its Public Safety Power Shutoffs.

Winds blasting through Northern California threaten to knock down power lines that have the potential to spark, ignite nearby vegetation and trigger a wildfire.

This is why in recent years PG&E has implemented PSPS events to de-energize lines and reduce the chances of a downed powerline sparking.

Solano County is one of a dozen California counties experiencing this PSPS event, as cities along the coastal range, in the Bay Area, and in the northern Sacramento Valley are without power.

PG&E expects this PSPS event to last through Saturday afternoon as wind speeds subside.

Start refunding people instead of shutting power off in the name of safety. Wind doesn’t start fires. Stupid
