Suspect in Decatur hit-and-run turns self in
DECATUR, Ala. — The man Decatur police say injured a minor in a traffic incident over the weekend has turned himself in to authorities. Dennis Mitchell turned himself in to the Decatur Police Department on Monday. He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury. He was booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $2,500 bond.
Tuition is rising for students at University of Alabama's 3 campuses
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Tuition is going up for those attending any of the University of Alabama campuses. The University of Alabama Board of Trustees on Friday unanimously approved the increase during its full board meeting, news outlets reported. Under the approved proposal, tuition rates at the system's campuses in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Huntsville will rise by as much as 4% for the 2024-25 school year, trustees said.

Alabama sheriff evacuates jail, citing unspecified 'health and safety issues'
PRATTVILLE, Ala. — An Alabama sheriff evacuated his county's jail Thursday, citing a need to prevent unspecified “health and safety issues.”. Autauga County Sheriff Mark Harrell said in a statement posted on Facebook that deputies began transporting inmates from the Autauga County Metro Jail to other facilities in the morning. His office's website currently lists 164 people on its inmate roster.
