UAH research wins 279K : Enhancing the safety of EV battery packs

Join Huntsville Animal Services in finding forever homes for shelter pets
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Looking for a new furry friend? Huntsville Animal Services has a bunch of pets up for adoption as they geared up for National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30. The shelter is packed after taking in 70 dogs last week, says Animal Services Interim Director Virgie Graham. To help out, Huntsville Animal Services are waving adoption fees for most adult dogs and cats starting May 3 until May 11.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama lawmakers' decision not to participate in the summer EBT program for 2024 will see some negative consequences. "It's disheartening, it's disappointing, and also it has a negative impact," Alabama Arise hunger policy advocate LaTrell Clifford Wood shares. "You will see nearly half a million children go without food or miss meals in the summer months. What our partners at Feeding Alabama have seen is that as recently as 2022, there have been gaps in summer meals, particularly when it comes to summer feeding programs, which are very worthy programs however, they only address 6% of those students that would rely on free and reduced meals during the school year and so what we see is that 94% of those children are likely to miss meals in the summer months."
Decatur hosts Annual State of the City : City officials address updates
DECATUR, Ala. — Decatur held its annual state of the city address - but Mayor Tab Bowling was not there. FOX54 reached out to mayor bowling's office and he confirmed he did not attend. Alabama House passes both gambling related bills, now heading to the Senate
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — UPDATE: Alabama House passes both gambling bills. HB151 the Constitutional Amendment passed 72-29 while HB152 the Enabling Legislation passed 70-29. Alabama lawmakers on Tuesday proposed a compromise on gambling legislation that would authorize a state lottery and multiple sites with electronic gambling machines. But the measure faces an uncertain outlook in the closing days of the legislative session.

One person dead after being hit by car in Albertville
MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. — Officials in Marshall County are looking into a car accident where someone was hit and killed on U.S. Highway 431. According to the Marshall County Coroner’s Office, the person was hit near the Massey Road intersection in Albertville just before five Tuesday morning. The person was pronounced dead on the scene.

DECATUR, Ala. — It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of retired Decatur Police Chief Ed Taylor. Chief Taylor began his career with the Decatur Police Department in December 1974. Over the years, Taylor rose through the ranks and served in numerous capacities throughout his career including patrol, CID and the training division. He graduated from the 196th Session of the F.B.I Academy in 1996. In August 2007 he was one of two appointed to a Major position.
