INDIANAPOLIS — Taylor Swift, Simone Biles, and Indiana’s own Caitlin Clark have all donned apparel by fashion designer Kristin Juszczyk.
One of the greatest designers in sports, Juszczyk, will now work with the greatest spectacle in racing by wrapping the winner of the Indianapolis 500 in her custom-made attire.
Juszczyk was commissioned by the Indy 500 to design a jacket for the winner and a celebrity guest. The celebrity who will wear the jacket is American Idol winner and Grammy-nominated songstress Jordin Sparks. Sparks will sing the National Anthem at the Indy 500 on May 26.
“It was an honor to be able to create a custom piece for such an iconic event like the Indy 500,” said Juszczyk. “This is the first time I’ve had one of my designs to be presented to a winner, and I can’t wait to see who gets to wear it on a Sunday!”
The jacket is a vintage racing-inspired piece that pays homage to the legendary spin-and-win. The historical moment refers to the 69th running of the Indy 500 in 1985 when racer Danny Sullivan spun around and lost control of his pace car. In one of the most memorable moments in sports history, Sullivan regained control and made a storybook-style comeback to win the race.
Juszczyk used merchandise from the local store “The Shop Indy,” and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway store in her design process.
“Our Indy 500 collaboration with Kristin has been months in the making, and we’re excited to share it with the world today,” said Alex Darmon, a spokesperson for Penske Entertainment.
“Her design pays tribute to our unique history and tradition but also has a very current and dynamic feel. For the Indy 500 champion, it’s going to be an incredibly special and unique keepsake. We also know this is something fun, new, and different that will hopefully reach some additional audiences and create wider engagement with our brand.”
