INDIANAPOLIS — One woman is dead and another woman is hospitalized in critical condition after a serious car crash on Indy’s north side.

Indianapolis police and EMS crews were called around 1:30 p.m. Friday to the intersection of E. 62nd and N. Meridian for a crash with injuries. Upon arrival, they found a collision involving a sedan and a passenger van.

Inside the the sedan officers found an adult woman in the driver’s seat in critical condition. That woman was taken to a local hospital and has since been pronounced dead, IMPD said.

The driver of the passenger van, also an adult female, was removed from the car and taken to a local hospital where she remains in critical condition.

IMPD investigators believe that the sedan was traveling southbound on N. Meridian Street when it crashed into the passenger van, which was moving eastbound on E. 62nd Street while attempting to cross the intersection.

Police said that the surviving driver of the passenger van is cooperating with IMPD’s investigation and has completed a routine blood draw – which is standard practice in fatal accidents. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The department’s fatal crash investigation team responded to the scene to gather information. According to IMPD, the crash site was clear for traffic by 4:15 p.m. No other information was provided.
