Man shot, killed during disturbance on near northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed during a disturbance on Indy’s near northeast side Friday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 10:44 p.m. to the 1700 block of East 34th Street after receiving receiving an incomplete 911 call. While en route, officers received a call from a neighbor stating someone had been shot inside of a residence.

On Monday, officials from the Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the person who died as 48-year-old Edward Franklin Gray Jr.

According to police, officers learned of a large disturbance inside the home before the shooting took place.

Upon arrival, IMPD said officers located an adult male with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. Officers rendered life-saving aid to the adult male until medics arrived. However, the adult male was pronounced deceased by medics, according to police.

Investigators say there was a large group of people at the scene of the shooting. Detectives are speaking with one possible witness, but say 20 to 30 other people may have witnessed the shooting.

On Monday afternoon, IMPD announced that it had arrested a suspect during its investigation of the shooting. No additional information on the suspect has been made available yet.
