Officers from the New Castle Police Department responded to a home on Stonegate Drive at around 6:49 p.m. on Aug. 20 on a call regarding a woman hitting another person with a bat.

According to the court documents, dispatch reportedly notified the officers that a woman, later identified as Canaday, reportedly admitted on the 911 phone call that she had hit another woman with a bat.

In an interview with the pregnant woman who was hit with the bat, the woman reportedly told police that she was outside her home, yelling for her friend’s child when Canaday came outside her home. Canaday reportedly yelled at the woman, calling her a racial slur.

The woman walked to Canaday, the documents read, telling her not to use that language because “there are a lot of kids outside.” The woman told police that Canaday then went inside her home and grabbed a black wooden bat.

“[Canaday] said ‘go on you n—– lovin’ f—— b—-.,'” the documents allege. “[Canaday] lunged towards [the woman] in an aggressive manner with the bat raised in her right hand, swinging it at [the woman] while [she] was holding her baby.”

The bat struck the pregnant woman, the documents said. Canaday then reportedly told the woman that she would “kill” her, calling her a “f—— b—-” once again. The documents said that this caused the woman to be “fearful [for] her life.”

According to court documents, an initial hearing for Canaday occurred on Aug. 22.
