BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Hoosiers will play the Tennessee Volunteers in a charity exhibition game.

The game is set for Oct. 27 at the Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center in Knoxville. Per NCAA rules, when two Division I teams meet for an exhibition game, the host school must sell tickets and donate the proceeds to a charity.

IU and Tennessee chose to support the John McClendon Foundation , which provides scholarships for minority students who plan to pursue a postgraduate degree in athletics administration.

“We are excited to be able to play such a good, well-coached team in Tennessee to get us ready for the season,” head coach Mike Woodson said. “We wanted to test ourselves away from our home floor early in the season and this will be a great experience to learn where we are as a ball club.”

Woodson called the McLendon Foundation a “wonderful cause” and said the Hoosiers were “honored” to support the foundation.

Tip time and broadcast information will be announced later. Tickets go on sale on Sept. 16.

Indiana previously had a single exhibition game on its schedule, a Nov. 1 tilt against Marian University to be played in Bloomington. The regular season starts on Nov. 6 with a non-conference game against SIUE (Southern Illinois University Edwardsville).

Last week, IU announced it would open the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament against Louisville on Nov. 27. Win or lose, the Hoosiers will play additional games on Nov. 28 and Nov. 29, with opponents determined by tournament results.

The other quarterfinal matchups in The Bahamas are:

    • West Virginia vs. Gonzaga (Game 2)
    • Oklahoma vs. Providence (Game 3)
    • Davidson vs. Arizona (Game 4)

The Big Ten has yet to announce dates and times for conference play. In May, the league revealed IU would have the following conference foes on its 20-game slate:

    • Home: Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Rutgers, UCLA, USC
    • Away: Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oregon, Washington, Wisconsin
    • Home/Away: Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue

Why don't you play a tough team in pre conference instead of cupcakes. Playing Tennessee in a charity game speaks volumes about IU program and Woodson. Chicken through and through. He has to play cupcake schedule hoping to get 20 wins to make the tournament. You wonder why IU is a play in game tournament team or sitting on the couch during March Madness.
