FRANKFORT, Ind. — Indiana State Police are investigating after one 14-year-old was killed and another was injured in a crash following a pursuit with Frankfort police officers in Clinton County early Tuesday morning.

The Frankfort Police Department Police Chief Scott Shoemaker confirmed that he has asked Indiana State Police to investigate the incident “to be fully transparent on the cause and manner of the crash.”

Shoemaker said officers received a 911 call around 2:32 a.m. reporting that a vehicle was seen allegedly driving on a curb, a sidewalk and “appeared to side-swipe a vehicle” as reports of reckless driving in the area of Hoke and Washington Avenue flooded into the Clinton County Central Dispatch.

ISP said officers found a 2004 Dodge Durango six minutes later driving near a Walmart on State Road 28 in Frankfort. It matched the provided description of the suspect vehicle.

ISP said the driver of the Dodge Durango reportedly failed to stop for police as they attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle then fled eastbound on State Road 28 and ignored at least one red light, according to FPD.

The pursuit led officers to County Road 250 East where the Dodge Durango veered off the south side of the roadway where it rolled over multiple times before coming to a rest.

FPD confirmed that two 14-year-olds were inside the vehicle.

One of the occupants was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency personnel while the other individual was transported via a helicopter to a hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. As of this article’s publication, their exact condition was not provided.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton County Coroner’s Office and Frankfort Fire Department also responded to assist on the scene of the crash.

Indiana State Police will oversee the investigation into the incident.
