WASHINGTON D.C. — The mother of a Bloomington man who was sentenced for his involvement in the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol has also been charged with similar conduct.
According to court documents filed earlier this year in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, Annie Vo, a Fishers resident, was charged with misdemeanor counts of:
Entering and remaining in a restricted building
Disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building
Disorderly conduct in a capitol building
Parading, demonstrating or picketing in a capitol building
On Jan. 6, 2021, hundreds of people protesting the results of the 2020 election breached the U.S. Capitol, unlawfully entering the building as members of Congress were expected to verify the election’s result.
Annie Vo’s son, Antony Vo, was sentenced in April to nine months in prison after he was found guilty of participating in the U.S. Capitol breach. According to previous reports , Antony Vo is expected to serve 12 months of supervised release after his prison sentence, and pay a $1,000 fine.
According to court documents, Antony Vo posted several images and videos to his personal social media accounts that showed both him and Annie Vo in the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021.
In multiple social media messages, Antony Vo acknowledged multiple times that his mom entered the U.S. Capitol with him. In multiple exchanges on Instagram, Antony Vo claimed that he “stormed” the Capitol with his mother.
“My mom and I helped stop the vote count for a bit,” Antony Vo said in one message.
When asked if he was inside of the U.S. Capitol, Antony Vo responded: “We were.”
Phone records linked Annie Vo to a residence in Fishers. That same phone was identified as “having utilized a cell site consistent with providing service” to an area that included the grounds and the inside of the U.S. Capitol.
Using video cameras from the site, footage shows the Vos approaching the upper west terrace door of the U.S. Capitol around 2:38 p.m. on Jan. 6, 2021. They appeared to have a conversation and then Antony Vo entered the building.
Annie Vo initially remained outside the door. Around 2:45 p.m., Annie Vo entered the building, eventually meeting Antony Vo in the rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, according to the court documents. The two then reportedly posed with a rioter’s flag in the Capitol rotunda. The court documents state that the two exited from the U.S. Capitol around 3:05 p.m. that afternoon.
After law enforcement conducted surveillance at a Fishers home where Annie Vo lives, officials “assessed” that Annie Vo was the person who was in the pictures and in the video during the U.S. Capitol breach.
According to court documents, Annie Vo’s virtual arraignment is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 3.
