PLAINFIELD, Ind. — Two people were killed and one officer was injured during a police chase in Plainfield Friday night.

According to the Plainfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Long John Silvers located in the 2300 block of East Main Street around 5:43 p.m. on a report of a person down. A PPD officer subsequently arrived at the scene and came into contact with multiple suspects.

The officer then got into an altercation with the suspects. As the altercation began developing, the suspects fled the scene in a white Kia.

The responding officer then pursued the vehicle with his police lights on.

As the chase progressed, the suspects in the Kia drove through the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and Smith Road. The Kia made it through the intersection, but the pursuing officer did not.

Per PPD, a person driving a gray Ford pulled out into the intersection after the Kia had gone through it. The pursuing officer struck the Ford while attempting to get past the intersection.

Two occupants in the gray Ford died from the injuries they sustained in the crash, according to PPD. The Hendricks County coroner’s office identified the decedents as 78-year-old Barbara Williams and 79-year-old Bennie Williams.

The officer that struck Bennie and Barbara Williams was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Police later located the white vehicle the suspects had been using. The car, however, was empty when officers found it. Investigators reported that they are still actively searching for suspects involved in the incident.

As of this article’s publication, police had not provided any additional information about the suspects.

PPD reported that, as is standard procedure, the Avon Police Department is investigating the crash. The officer involved in the crash — a five-year veteran — has been placed on administrative leave.

“A loss of life is immeasurable,” PPD Sgt. Jim Gillespie said during a media briefing. “It leaves an absence in your heart and in your family. And we understand and appreciate that. It also impacts the first responders that are on the scene or involved in the incident. It’s something that’s never going to leave them for an entire career.

“We want the community to know that we support our families here. We support the Plainfield community and all who come to visit us. And if there’s anything we can do to provide you support, no matter what the incident might be, please let us know, and we will do our best to give you the support that you need.”

This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available .

Two people lost their lives because one persons ego was bruised because he couldn't handle the situation. He lost control of his judgment. If he's not fired, and he probably won't be, I wouldn't let him on patrol again.
