    IMPD: Arrest made after homicide on near east side of Indianapolis

    INDIANAPOLIS — One person is dead after a shooting on the near east side of Indianapolis.

    According to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 30 block of S. Gray Street around 12:57 p.m. on Wednesday on a report of a shooting.

    IMPD officers respond to shooting on near east side

    When officers arrived, they located a person who reportedly had a gunshot wound injury. The person who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene.

    In an updated news release from IMPD on Thursday, the department said that officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of E. Edgewood Ave. on reports of an armed person on Wednesday. Officers believed at the time that the armed individual was the suspect in the homicide.

    When officers arrived, they located the suspect. The release said that officers with the department’s aviation unit, as well as the department’s SWAT team, was called on scene to take the suspect into custody. The suspect was arrested in relation to the homicide.

    Grossnickle

    In an updated Facebook post on Thursday morning, IMPD identified the person who was arrested as 53-year-old James Grossnickle. Grossnickle has preliminarily been charged with murder in relation to the shooting.

    On Thursday morning, the Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the person who died in this shooting as 40-year-old Craig Esmon Jacobs.
