Woman shot during domestic incident on east side

INDIANAPOLIS – A woman ended up in the hospital after being shot in what police characterized as a domestic incident on the east side.

Indianapolis Metropolitan police were dispatched to the 8700 block of Calbert Court for a person shot around 3:45 a.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived, they found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds. She was taken to an area hospital; police didn’t disclose the extent of her injuries.

Capt. Don Weilhammer with IMPD said the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation. Police had a person of interest in custody.

Weilhammer said the shooting happened inside the residence; children were present at the time.

Aggravated assault detectives were called to the scene. The shooting remains under investigation.
