IMPD: Man arrested after fatal shooting of 16-year-old in April

INDIANAPOLIS — A 21-year-old was arrested on Friday in relation to a fatal shooting of a 16-year-old on the near northwest side of Indianapolis in April.

According to a post on social media from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. 21-year-old Gershom Hannah was arrested on a felony murder charge, as well as attempted murder and robbery.

At around 8 p.m. on April 11, officers with the department’s northwest district were dispatched to the 400 block of W. 25th St. on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old who was shot. The teen was later pronounced dead.

That same day, police responded to a person who was shot that arrived at a local hospital. The person was reported to be in critical condition. IMPD detectives determined that the two shooting incidents were connected.

On Friday, detectives were able to locate Hannah and subsequently arrested him. A second man, identified as a 22-year-old, reportedly fled from police during the incident. The second man was taken into custody after a “short foot pursuit” on drug charges as well as resisting law enforcement charges.

Court documents allege that an attempted robbery occurred before the shooting. According to the court documents, the teen who was killed and Hannah reportedly attempted to rob the firearm of the second person who was shot when the incident occurred.
