NEW PALESTINE, Ind. — An Indianapolis man is charged with multiple felonies after attempting to cash thousands of dollars in fraudulent checks at multiple bank locations.

Brian Shinkle, 24, is charged with fraud, a Level 5 felony, and forgery, a Level 6 felony in two separate cases in Hancock County. He also faces a separate charge of counterfeiting as a Level 6 felony.

According to court documents, Shinkle went to Greenfield Banking Company branches in Greenfield and New Palestine and attempted to pass off fraudulent checks to tellers.

One of these checks, written out for nearly $2,000, was refused by the teller at a New Palestine branch reportedly causing Shinkle to become irate with the teller — shouting and cursing at her.

A warrant was issued for Shinkle’s arrest in mid August. On Sept. 3, he was taken into custody.

If convicted, Shinkle faces up to six years in prison.
