    Indianapolis woman missing after rescue in Puerto Rico

    SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Officials with the United States Coast Guard are searching for a 22-year-old woman from Indianapolis who was reported missing off a beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

    According to a news release from the coast guard, the 22-year-old was visiting the island from Indianapolis. The woman, who was not identified by officials, reportedly went swimming with two of her friends in Condado Beach at around 6:32 p.m. on Sunday and was caught in strong rip currents.

    The woman’s friends were reportedly rescued and assisted ashore by local bystanders and other authorities. The release said that the missing woman was reportedly wearing a white shirt, pants and beach swimwear.

    The release said that coast guard watchstanders at Sector San Juan initially heard from a bystander about the incident. The bystander reportedly heard screaming at the beach and saw two people in distress in the water. A helicopter, as well as other personnel, were dispatched to conduct rescue efforts.
