IMPD: Woman found dead in wooded area on near southeast side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A woman was found dead in a wooded area on the near southeast side of Indianapolis Monday afternoon.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded to the 1900 block of Earhart Street just after 1 p.m. to start a death investigation. When police arrived at the scene, they came into contact with the person who initially requested law enforcement come to the area.

That person then led police to a wooded area near the 1800 block of Wagner Lane — which is located near East Raymond Street and South Sherman Drive. In that wooded area, police found an unresponsive adult female.

The woman was later pronounced dead at the scene by medics.

IMPD is still looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police are collaborating with the Marion County Coroner’s Office to determine the woman’s exact manner and cause of death.

Per IMPD, the woman had been reported missing early Monday morning.

Officers are trying to determine exactly when the woman died. Detectives believe the woman may have died over the weekend, though they have yet to officially confirm her time of death.

An IMPD homicide unit was called to the scene to participate in the investigation.

IMPD reported that the woman’s death was “an isolated incident” that does not pose an ongoing threat to the community.
