INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis family is seeking justice after a woman is shot to death on cameras on the city’s west side.

Just before 7 p.m. Friday, home surveillance video shows a suspect driving a red Dodge pull up next to the victim’s parked car for just a few seconds, during which the fatal shots were fired and the suspect quickly sped away.

“They drove around a couple of times and pulled up next to her and unloaded their clip on the car,” said the victim’s aunt Yolanda Dotson.

Police were called minutes later and found the 37-year-old victim shot inside her parked car in front of her own west side home.

Kierra Dotson, who was known by her family as Kia, died after being rushed to the hospital.

“I’m heartbroken,” said Yolanda. “I’m hurt. It’s a senseless murder and we don’t know why.”

Holding pictures of her niece, Yolanda Dotson said Kia grew up and lived in her home for years before moving out and raising a teenage daughter.

Kia recently moved back in with her aunt and uncle because of financial troubles.

“She came back home to get herself back on track and she was doing that,” Yolanda said. “She was sitting in the car right here in front of the house and someone came by and gunned her down.”

The family said right now they don’t know what motivated the murder, but they’re pleading for anyone with information to speak to the police because Kia leaves behind a large loving family eager for justice.

“You hurt her daughter, her sisters and brothers, her nieces and nephews, her aunts and uncles,” Yolanda said. “Those of us who loved her she mattered. She was someone.”

Anyone with information about this incident should call Detective Kevin Roell at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317.327.3475 or e-mail the detective at Kevin.Roell@indy.gov .

Alternatively, they can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317.262.8477 or (TIPS) to remain anonymous.

The victim’s family has organized a GoFundMe in Kia’s name that can be found here: Fundraiser by Janae’ Dotson : In Memory of Kia: Support Her Final Journey (gofundme.com)
