82-year-old man dies in Henry County plane crash

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Ind. — Authorities are investigating after a small plane crash in Henry County claimed one life early Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Department, the plane crashed just east of Sulphur Springs near U.S. 36 and North County Road 200 West around 2 p.m. The sheriff’s department said the crash occurred on a private landing strip behind Roberts Pipeline Inc. where the plane was found resting upside down on a grassy runway.

At this time, only a single death has been reported. Indiana State Police identified the victim as 82-year-old David Michael Province from Middletown.

This deadly plane crash comes on the heels of a recent plane crash in Anderson that claimed four lives.

ISP said preliminary information indicates the incident involved a blue 1975 Stewart Bowers Flybaby that crashed sometime during takeoff. The plane appeared to be heading west but ISP was unsure what the intended destination was.

ISP will take the lead on the investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration is also responding to the crash scene and will contribute to the ongoing investigation into the cause.
