INDIANAPOLIS — No one has been welcomed into Hoosiers’ homes more over the last 40 years than beloved news anchor Debby Knox. Now, it’s Knox who is being welcomed — into the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame.

At a luncheon on Tuesday, Knox and five radio broadcasters were inducted as the newest class of Hall of Fame broadcasters in the Hoosier state.

“They are the best of the best, and we are delighted to recognize this class of top-tier broadcasters and community volunteers,” said Dave Arland, executive director of the Indiana Broadcasters Association.

Debby Knox’s lasting legacy: Celebrating the CBS4 anchor’s 40+ year news career

Knox has been a fixture on Indianapolis television screens since she debuted on WISH-TV in 1980. For 33 years Knox served as the primary news anchor for WISH-TV before retiring in 2013.

But Knox couldn’t shake her love of news and returned to the news desk two years later to help launch CBS4-WTTV in 2015 — teaming with veteran FOX59 anchor Bob Donaldson as co-leads for the new CBS affiliate.

After an eight-year run at CBS4, Knox retired from Indianapolis’ airwaves for a second time in November 2023. As a testament to her lasting legacy, several friends, family members and state officials honored Knox during her final, teary-eyed farewell.

Over her storied career, Knox accrued numerous awards and accolades including four Emmys. Now, she’ll forever be enshrined alongside the state’s best broadcasters in the Indiana Broadcast Pioneers Hall of Fame.

Inducted alongside Knox in this year’s Hall of Fame class was:

    • Dennis Jon Bailey, WIKY Radio Evansville radio personality
    • Ardath Burkhart, civic leader and founder of Indianapolis Public TV broadcaster WFYI
    • Tony Lamont, WTLC Radio Indianapolis radio personality
    • Paul Page, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network broadcaster
