    Muncie police: 1 dead after reported stabbing

    MUNCIE, Ind. — A 31-year-old man died after a reported stabbing on Monday evening in Muncie, according to officials with the Muncie Police Department.

    At around 9:31 p.m. on Monday, Delaware County dispatch received a report of a stabbing in the 1800 block of E. Cornell Ave. When officers from the Muncie Police Department responded, they found that two men were injured.

    One man, later identified as 31-year-old John Springman, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Springman died from his injuries the next morning. The other man, identified as a 29-year-old man, reportedly had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

    The department said its detective division and its uniform division have been “actively investigating” the incident. stating that they made contact with and interviewed the individuals who were involved in the altercation, along with witnesses.

    As of this story’s publication, no arrests have been made. Officials said this is “a continual and ongoing investigation” that will eventually be forwarded to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
