Muncie man arrested after cops find 15 grams of fentanyl during traffic stop

WAYNE COUNTY, Ind. — A Muncie man now faces a felony charge after State Police reportedly found a large amount of fentanyl hidden in a car during a traffic stop in Wayne County.

Chase Andrew Shell, 34, was arrested Wednesday after a car he was riding in was pulled over on US 35 for a traffic violation. He now faces felony drug possession and misdemeanor paraphernalia possession charges.

An ISP trooper reportedly pulled over a speeding car around 10:43 p.m. on US 35 near Davis Meyers Road outside Williamsburg. While speaking with the driver, the trooper reportedly saw indicators of criminal activity after noticing Shell sitting in the passenger seat.

The trooper called for backup and, after reportedly establishing probable cause, had the two men exit the car. Troopers then searched the vehicle and reportedly found around 15 grams of suspected fentanyl on the passenger side. Drug paraphernalia was also found.

ISP said that after this, Shell was detained by troopers and taken to the Wayne County Jail where he was booked without further incident. Jail records show he is now being held on a $1,500 cash-only bond. An initial hearing in his case has not yet been scheduled.

Online court records show Shell has an extensive criminal history in Indiana. Since 2006, Shell has been charged with many felonies including pointing a firearm, disorderly conduct, battery, narcotics dealing and possession, neglect of a dependent, various traffic violations and more.
