    2 arrested after IMPD detective’s car shot during near east side shooting

    INDIANAPOLIS — Multiple arrests were made by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Wednesday evening after a detective’s vehicle was shot while trying to serve a warrant to obtain evidence on the near east side of Indianapolis.

    According to a news release from IMPD, detectives with the department’s violent crimes unit, along with SWAT officers, were looking to serve a warrant for evidence related to a criminal investigation.

    A suspect was located driving in the area of East 10th Street and Rural Street. The release said that four people were in the car and detectives saw that they were all wearing masks.

    When a detective was conducting surveillance on the car, shots were reportedly fired from the suspect’s vehicle and struck the detective’s vehicle in the 1600 block of N. Olney Street. Investigators later found that a nearby home had also been struck by gunfire during the shooting.

    After the shooting, SWAT officers apprehended four suspects, including three adults and one juvenile, from the vehicle. The release did not identify any of the suspects.

    Officials said that four firearms were located within the vehicle, which was seized and towed pending further investigation.

    The release said that at least one involved individual was arrested on a warrant for an unrelated charge and the juvenile was arrested for dangerous possession of a handgun by a juvenile. The other two individuals in the vehicle were released.

    The department’s critical incident response team was called to the scene to conduct a separate investigation into the incident. Officials said in the release that it remains an ongoing investigation.

    The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decisions. Anyone with information about the shooting are asked to call the department’s homicide office at (317) 327-3475 or the Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
