INDOT said the right lane was closed. Hancock County dispatchers said a semi truck experienced a brake fire.

Traffic cameras showed emergency vehicles on the scene with traffic moving slowly in the area and sometimes coming to a standstill.

Hancock County 911 reported the backup extended about five miles and suggested drivers divert onto U.S. 40 or another westbound route.

Around 7:10 a.m., Hancock County 911 said the scene wouldn’t be cleared for another hour and a half.

INDOT marked the interstate cleared around 8:30 a.m. Traffic cameras showed traffic moving in all lanes.
