INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police have arrested two more Indianapolis-area students for making threats against local schools, bringing the number of central Indiana students arrested in the last week to at least eight.

ISP announced on Friday afternoon that troopers from the Indianapolis Post have arrested two juveniles – ages 12 and 15 – for allegedly making school threats this week. ISP said that the Indy Post investigated three different reported school threats this week, one of which was false.

Police said that the tips were received online and immediately investigated.

“Working closely with the affected school personnel, troopers were able to swiftly identify suspects and obtain search warrants,” ISP said.

As a result, a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old were arrested for reportedly making the threats. The three investigations by ISP were unrelated to each other.

“Threats of violence toward a school must be taken seriously, it is essential we immediately and thoroughly investigate each incident and utilize every investigative resource available,” ISP Lt. Josh Watson said. “School safety is among our highest priorities.”

ISP said the Marion County Prosecutors Office will now handle final charging information.

    Other Indy-area school threat arrests

These two arrests are just the most recent in a string of Hoosier students being charged with making threats.

On Thursday, police in Richmond arrested a 14-year-old after the FBI reported the student was making threats against the high school on Snapchat.

Earlier this week, Marion police arrested two juveniles accused of making online threats at two local schools. On Tuesday, police arrested a student for allegedly making online threats at an unspecified school within the Warren Township Metropolitan School District.

Last week, Anderson police arrested a student who allegedly threatened to bring a gun to class. Indiana State Police also arrested a Perry Meridian student last week for making alleged threats.

15+ school threat arrests across the state

These issues have not only plagued central Indiana.

On Thursday, a 7th-grade student in Jeffersonville was arrested for making threats against two local middle schools. The 12-year-old now faces felony charges.

Throughout this week, at least seven juvenile students have been arrested in Terre Haute for making threats throughout the Vigo County School Corporation.

In Gibson County, sheriff’s deputies say a juvenile was arrested on Thursday after allegedly making threatening statements.

In northwest Indiana, the Jasper County Sheriff confirmed on social media that charges have been filed against one student for threats made to a middle school. Portage police said that their department is investigating made to local schools and that they are “seeking charges.”

Combining these arrests with those from central Indiana, the total number of Hoosier students arrested for threats this school year has reached at least 17.
