INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis metro police are investigating after a man was shot and critically injured following a “gun battle” involving two vehicles on Indy’s northeast side Friday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called around 9:33 p.m. to the 3900 block of N. Sherman Drive after receiving reports that shots were fired and that a crash had occurred in the area.

Upon arrival, IMPD said officers found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition, according to IMPD.

IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer said preliminary information indicates the critical shooting stemmed from an incident involving two vehicles and what appeared to be a targeted “gun battle.”

A female who was driving the other vehicle that was involved in the crash was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition. Weilhammer said this woman was injured after one of the two vehicles crashed into her car and said that she was not involved in the shooting.

This shooting marks a violent few hours across the Circle City after police were called to investigate seven separate shootings Friday night.

The first call came around 7:39 p.m. when officers responded to the 8000 block of Egret Lane on the north side of Indianapolis and found one victim there who had been shot.

Officers were then dispatched around 7:54 p.m. to the near east side at the 3300 block of E. Washington Street where they located one individual suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Around an hour later, officers were called to the 2800 block of Black Knight Boulevard on Indy’s east side where one victim was found suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers were then called around 9:36 p.m. to the 7100 block of Warrior Trail on the north side where one person was wounded in a shooting.

Police arrived at 250 W. 16th Street, the listed address for Methodist Hospital, shortly after 10 p.m. and found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds, IMPD said. At this time, it remains unclear where these victims sustained their injuries.

The victims at each location were last reported to be in stable condition, according to IMPD.

Anyone with information related to any of the shootings is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.

This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available .
