INDIANAPOLIS — Police are investigating after a person was shot and killed on Indy’s east side Saturday morning.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just after 6 a.m., officers were called to the 3800 block of East Washington Street on the report of shots fired. While police were enroute to the scene, dispatchers received several additional calls that indicated shots were fired in the area.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located an adult male with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds lying in an alley near an area business. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, per IMPD.

On Monday, the Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the person who died as 31-year-old Joshua Daniel Davis.

Investigators recovered multiple firearms at the scene. At this time, officers believe the shooting to be an isolated incident that does not pose an active threat to the community.

IMPD confirmed that a person of interest has been detained, but police have not made any official arrests yet.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office will help IMPD determine the victim’s exact manner and cause of death. MCCO will release the decedent’s name once his family has been properly notified of his death.

Police are asking those with information on the incident to contact detective Christopher Edward at the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or Christopher.Edwards@indy.gov. Alternatively, tipsters who wish to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana by calling (317) 262-8477, using the P3Tips mobile app or visiting www.CrimeTips.org .

This is a developing story. It will be updated when new information has been made available.
