INDIANAPOLIS — A man has been convicted of murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office announced in a release on Saturday.

Tremayne Hobson Jr. faces charges stemming from a fatal robbery that resulted in the shooting death of Dusty Lawrence . He was found guilty Friday evening after a four-day jury trial.

MCPO reported that Lawrence, his wife and their then-5-year-old daughter were traveling to a residence in the 3600 block of Newcastle Drive on March 28, 2021, for the purpose of trading a firearm with another person. Lawrence communicated with an individual through the social media app Discord, but once he arrived, three individuals approached his vehicle.

Per MCPO, Lawrence then exited his vehicle to trade firearms. He was shot shortly thereafter, and he later succumbed to his injuries.

Via multiple leads and identifications from both Lawrence’s wife and nearby neighbors, police located the mother of Tremayne Hobson Jr., who reportedly lived on the same block as where the shooting occurred.

Detectives then obtained a search warrant for Hobson’s residence. There, they found clothing consistent with one of the individuals who was present at the scene.

MCPO also wrote that police searched Lawrence’s vehicle. They recovered a firearm box and a damaged pink firearm, which did not belong to Lawrence nor was it involved in the trade discussions whatsoever.

Prosecutors believe that Hobson, alongside the other individuals present during the incident, planned to present the pink firearm to Lawrence instead of what was agreed upon in the trade.

Additionally, MCPO indicated that Demetrius Coakley has been charged for his role in the crime. He faces the same charges as Hobson Jr. — murder and robbery resulting in serious bodily injuries.

According to court documents, Hobson’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10.

Booking photos for Hobson Jr. and Coakley have not yet been provided.

Reminds me of history where the bigger tribes captured the smaller tribes and put them in cages, and sold them for beads and trinkets.
