INDIANAPOLIS — An Indy man, who police believe to be connected to a string of thefts reported at a Macy’s retail store at Castleton Square, has been arrested on nine separate warrants related to charges of theft and resisting law enforcement.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced that Benjamin Wilson, 45, was detained in the 6000 block of North Rural Street on multiple outstanding warrants Monday night.

According to court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4, Wilson has a lengthy theft history that has involved multiple run-ins with IMPD stretching back to at least January 2023.

Court documents show that officers were informed by a manager working at the Macy’s located at 6020 East 82nd Street that they believed Wilson was the man behind multiple instances of theft that recently occurred at the retail store.

The manager told officers that they reportedly stopped Wilson on Dec. 2, 2023, following one of the alleged thefts. When the employee stopped the suspect, Wilson allegedly told the manager his name was Tommy Jackson.

The manager said he determined this wasn’t his real name after observing a hospital bracelet the suspect was wearing that displayed the name “Benjamin Wilson.”

Using a combination of previous reports and surveillance footage, officers determined that Wilson was allegedly responsible for the theft of seven pieces of merchandise from Macy’s on Feb. 6, 2023. The total value of the stolen items, confirmed to be Tommy Hilfiger jackets and vests, came out to $595.

Detectives connected Wilson to another report of theft a month later at the same store. Court documents state that officers identified Wilson via the business’ video surveillance footage exiting with multiple handbags containing merchandise worth $962.40.

On March 22, 2023, officers were notified by a Macy’s employee that a male believed to be Wilson was seen entering the store alongside an unidentified woman and leaving with four handbags containing merchandise worth around $662.

The following month on April 6, court documents show that Wilson was again implicated in another theft at the store. Footage the officers reviewed shows Wilson allegedly stealing several Polo brand items worth $1,321.23 and leaving the store without paying.

Two days later, Wilson is alleged to have again stolen multiple clothing items worth a reported $1,549.96 from the popular retail store.

According to online court records, Wilson was due to appear in Marion Superior Court 23 for a Drug Court Treatment Hearing on July 17 but was a no-show, meaning that his warrant remained active until his arrest Monday night.
