IMPD: Woman shot while trying to break up altercation on northwest side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan police responded Tuesday morning to a shooting on the northwest side.

According to IMPD, officers were dispatched around 5:35 a.m. to the 5900 block of West 82 ^nd Street for a reported shooting.

Police found a person suffering from gunshot wounds. Medics arrived and transported the individual to an area hospital. Investigators said the shooting happened in the parking lot of a nearby business.

Law enforcement believes the shooting stemmed from a physical altercation between two people. During the incident, one of the individuals brandished a firearm.

The victim, who was trying to intervene in the two individuals’ altercation, was shot at least once. Police reported that the victim — later identified as an adult female — was transported from the scene to a local hospital in stable condition.

The shooting remains under investigation.
