    ISP warns of new email extortion scam

    INDIANAPOLIS — If you’ve received an email lately threating financial extortion, the Indiana State Police said you aren’t alone.

    According to ISP, detectives have recently received increased reports regarding an email extortion scam. Per the reports, a scammer sends victims their name, address and sometimes a photo of their home. They then claim to have installed a spyware called Pegasus onto their phone and attempt to extort them.

    ISP said if anyone has been affected by this scam or any similar cybercrime, they are encouraged to report it at this website .

    They also encouraged individuals and businesses to visit the Indiana Cybersecurity Hub and Scam Tracker , the latter of which is operated by the Better Business Bureau.

    I’ve been getting phone calls saying it’s the United States saying I owe back taxes it’s a scam I just keep sending them nasty messages
