Docs: Man raided fridge, dumped bleach and broke TVs during Muncie home break in

MUNCIE, Ind. — A man has been arrested on felony charges after police say he broke into a Muncie woman’s home, poured bleach on her floors, bed and clothes, broke her TVs and raided her fridge.

Dartize Darnell Davis, 32, was arrested Monday by Muncie police officers after they were called the week before to a home being burglarized. Davis was eventually booked into jail on charges including felony burglary, theft and more.

Court documents show MPD crews were called around 5 a.m. last Monday to a local home for a burglary in progress. While en route, officers were told that the suspect had run away on foot and was wearing all black.

Upon arrival at the home, police spoke with a woman who said she had arrived home to find that food from her refrigerator was emptied on the kitchen floor. While investigating the situation, the woman found the home in disarray and smelled bleach throughout the residence.

The woman said that, moments later, a man she recognized as Davis appeared near her back door. He then reportedly used a power washer hose extension to bust through the back window and climb inside the house. Detectives later found broken glass throughout the living room.

The victim told police that she then received a phone call from a neighbor who said she’d seen Davis climbing into her house through her kitchen window around an hour prior. The woman believed that Davis had gone through the house and damaged many of her belongings.

Police surveyed the damage throughout the home, which included three busted televisions and damaged items in her bedroom. Detectives also noted that the entire residence smelled strongly of bleach and that there were many items – such as clothes and furniture – doused in liquid.

Eventually, officers said they found an empty bleach bottle sitting on the floor of a child’s room. Next to the bottle was a pile of clothes that had been covered in the bleach.

Hours later, the victim called police and said that her Apple Smart Watch was missing from her purse and her Go Trax Electric Scooter was taken from her hall closet. The woman told officers the estimated total damage was around $2,500.

A probable cause affidavit charging Davis with several felonies was filed on Sept. 16 in Delaware County Court and a warrant was issued for his arrest. MPD then arrested Davis on Monday and booked him into the Delaware County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

• Burglary of a Dwelling – Level 4 Felony
• Criminal Mischief – Class A Misdemeanor
• Theft/Larceny – Class A Misdemeanor

Davis is now being held in jail on a $30,000 bond. Online court records have not yet been updated to reflect an initial hearing in his case.
