INDIANAPOLIS — This year, the Assistance League of Indianapolis is celebrating 40 years of Operation School Bell, an initiative that helps support children and adults in need across Central Indiana.

According to its website, Operation School Bell offers new clothing, supplies and athletic shows to underserved children. School personnel from Indianapolis-area public school districts identify and refer K-5 students to the program.

Selected elementary schools also receive kits of clothing items to help other students with emergency and immediate-need situations. This year, the initiative wants to clothe its 75,000th student.

Carol Valentine, the president of the Assistance League of Indianapolis, along with Laurel Burns, the vice president of the league’s philanthropic programs, joined the FOX59 Morning News on Thursday to speak about the 40th year of the program.
