Colts rule out Kwity Paye, Kenny Moore II for Steelers game

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts will be short-handed for Sunday’s meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

    The overriding question: How short-handed?

Friday, Coach Shane Steichen ruled defensive end Kwity Paye (quad) and nickel cornerback Kenny Moore II (hip).

That automatically stresses the depth along the defensive line and the cornerback room. The Colts already are without defensive end Samsom Ebukam (Achilles) and defensive tackle DeForest Buckner (ankle), and cornerback JuJu Brents (knee).

All are on the injured reserve list, but Buckner probably will return within a month or so. It’s possible Ebukam and Brents return in December.

But while Paye and Moore are out, the status of several players remains in doubt.

That list includes center Ryan Kelly (neck), right tackle Braden Smith (knee), defensive end Tyquan Lewis (hand/calf) and cornerback Chris Lammons (knee/ankle).

Kelly practiced Wednesday, then missed the next two days with the neck issue.

Smith is dealing with soreness in the left knee that required offseason surgery. He practiced on Thursday but was a spectator on Wednesday and Friday.

Lewis also was a full participant Wednesday, but followed Kelly’s lead and didn’t practice the next two days.

Lammons was not able to practice Wednesday and Thursday, but was on the field Friday.
