INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has released edited bodycam footage from an officer-involved shooting that left one man injured after responding to an active shooter situation last November on the northeast side of the city.

According to a graphic that appears at the beginning of the video, officers responded to the 3900 block of Caroline Avenue around 11 a.m. on Nov. 10, 2023, after dispatch received reports indicating an individual had fired multiple shots on Caroline Avenue near the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

As officers arrived, they observed Hood on the south side of the residence on a gravel driveway.

The bodycam footage shows officers asking Hood to drop his firearm and lay down on the ground numerous times. IMPD said Hood initially followed their instructions and briefly laid the weapon on the ground beside him.

Officers can then be heard instructing Hood to get up and begin to walk toward them.

Security footage collected by detectives during their investigation appears to show Hood slowly walking in the direction of the officers. As he nears the end of the driveway, Hood can be seen turning around and running toward his firearm.

IMPD stated that Hood dropped to the ground, grabbed the firearm and began to stand up. It was at this moment that one of the officers on scene discharged their service weapon.

The footage shows the officers immediately rushing to provide medical aid and apply a tourniquet to Hood’s injured arm.

Hood was subsequently transported to an area hospital in “serious but stable” condition.

The images featured in the edited footage were gathered from an officer’s body-worn camera that was activated during the shooting.

Following the incident, IMPD added that Hood appeared to be firing a weapon outside while he was at the residence. Detectives reportedly located shell casings indicating that the gunfire struck a car and a home.

IMPD confirmed that no officers or uninvolved citizens were injured during this incident.

On Nov. 15, 2023, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Hood was formally charged with one count of criminal recklessness (level 5 felony), two counts of unlawful carrying of a handgun (level 5 felony) and one count of resisting law enforcement (level 6 felony).

Just last month, Hood pled guilty to one count of criminal recklessness with a weapon and one count of carrying a handgun, with both being level 5 felonies. The rest of his charges were dismissed as part of the agreement.

Hood received a five-year sentence on Aug. 27, with one year to be spent in prison and one additional year spent in community corrections. The remaining portion of the sentence will feature two years suspended to mental health reporting probation. T

The release of Friday’s bodycam footage was delayed after MCPO filed a protective order, which was granted by the court. The protective order prevented the release of any evidence, including this bodycam footage, from being released while the criminal case was pending.
