    Storms in central Indiana leave thousands without power

    (WXIN/WTTV) — Duke Energy, AES Indiana and Indiana-Michigan Power are currently working to restore power for thousands of customers as high winds and lashing rain slam central Indiana.

    Remnants of Hurricane Helene, which has caused over one million people to be without power as the storm passes through the coast of Florida toward Georgia, have brought local impacts Friday as many events were postponed or canceled .

    These impacts have now led to thousands of outages that have been reported throughout central Indiana Friday evening.

    According to Duke Energy’s power outage map , 21,219 customers were without power as of 11:15 p.m. Friday. The majority of these outages have been reported just east of Cumberland near N. 600 W. and U.S. Highway 40.

    Meanwhile, AES Indiana has reported 57,322 outages as of this article’s publication. The majority of these outages have been reported on the north side of Indianapolis near Bishop Chatard High School on Crittenden Avenue.

    As of 10:10 p.m., the Indiana Department of Homeland Security reported that Hamilton, Dearborn and Clay counties are under an advisory as emergency management officials continue to assess the conditions.

    The Jackson Township Fire Department in Hamilton County has confirmed in a Facebook post that crews are active in the area of 266th Street between Ernest and Devaney after a downed tree brought a power line down.

    Meanwhile, Richmond Power and Light has responded to multiple reports of trees being down in the Riley Hills and Irish Court areas on the west and north sides of Richmond, respectively.

    Indiana-Michigan Power has reported that 4,613 customers are currently without power.

    In Indianapolis, Friday’s storm knocked down trees on Washington Street. A wind gust of 68 mph was observed at Indianapolis International Airport at 9:30 p.m.

    praying for everyone in that surrounding area and for the people who got hit or killed in the last few days. also praying for the animals who lost their owners due to the storm.
