LEBANON, Ind. — Court documents reveal that in November 2021 two minors came forward and accused a Camby man of sexually molesting them roughly a decade ago when they were young children.

Both victims kept their molestation secret for years until the mental toll became too much to bear, with police documenting how both victims had attempted or threatened to attempt suicide in the past prior to coming forward and revealing their trauma.

Statute of limitations debate renewed at the Statehouse for certain crimes

Now, nearly three years after the allegations came to light, the man accused of molesting the victims is under arrest and charged with multiple felonies.

Damien Lane, 29, was arrested on Sept. 25 and charged with one count of child molesting, a Class B felony, and three counts of child molesting as a Class C felony. He has since posted a $25,000 surety bond (usually requiring only 10% to be paid in cash) and has been released from jail.

Lane’s charges are classified under Indiana’s old felony “Class” system instead of the current felony “Level” system due to the alleged crimes happening before July 1, 2014, which is when the felony classification change went into effect.

Lane’s Class B felony carries up to 20 years in prison on conviction.

According to court documents, the alleged molestation occurred in Boone County between 2013 and 2016. Both victims were 10 and/or under when the molestation allegedly began.

Lane allegedly told one of the victims not to tell anyone about what he was doing to them, calling it “their little secret.”

According to court documents, DCS was also notified about the alleged molestation in February 2023.

The Whitestown Police Department were originally notified of the accusations when the victims came forward in November 2021. The case ended up being assigned to the Boone County Child Abuse and Sexual Exploitation Task Force.

The probable cause affidavit that led to Lane’s arrest was filed on Sept. 20, 2024. It is unclear why a probable cause and warrant weren’t filed until nearly three years after the victims’ allegations came to light.
