CUMBERLAND, Ind. — A juvenile is recovering in the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Cumberland Thursday night.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 10 p.m. in response to reports of a hit-and-run occurring in the 1100 block of North Cumberland Road.

IMPD said a group of juvenile males were walking in the grass and the juvenile that was struck was riding his bicycle on the edge of the roadway without lights when a vehicle heading southbound struck them.

The victim was taken to Riley Children’s Hospital in what police described as “very critical condition.”

Police said the vehicle that struck the juvenile did not stay on the scene. In an update from IMPD on Friday morning, officials said the fatal crash investigation team conducted the on scene investigation. However, the victim remains in critical condition.

Investigators are looking for witnesses or video of the incident as they do not have information on a suspect, and no one remained at the scene to talk to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call IMPD at 317-327-3475 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
