INDIANAPOLIS — A 23-year-old woman is dead after being shot outside a hotel on Indy’s west side. The shooting appears to have stemmed from a domestic disturbance.

Following the shooting, the man who pulled the trigger turned himself in and gave his side of the story, after which he was released without being arrested.

It all started around 9 p.m. Wednesday, that’s when police were called to the Red Roof Inn along South Lynhurst Drive and found 23-year-old Chasidy Hahn shot dead on scene.

“What happened last night was really sad, a lady lost her life,” said hotel manager Ram Singh.

Police say shoplifters stole hundreds of dollars worth of baby monitors, diapers

Ram Singh said he checked the victim and a young child into the hotel after she and another man drove in from North Carolina.

Surveillance cameras outside the hotel allegedly showed an argument between two men known to the victim, during which the woman appeared to pull out a gun and one of the men responded by firing in her direction.

That shooter initially left the scene, but later surrendered and was released pending further investigation by the prosecutor’s office.

“All that domestic violence I think got out of hand and escalated where someone lost their life and that’s really sad,” said Singh.

Aside from the shooting, police confirm there has not been a history of violence at this particular Red Roof.

“The last time we had something was earlier in the year and it was unfortunately at the Waffle House,” said IMPD Captain Don Weilhammer.

In February, 35-year-old Crystal Kennebrew was killed and five others were wounded following a fight between two groups at the Waffle House, which sits directly in front of the Red Roof.

At that time, Captain Weilhammer stood in almost the same spot and preached a message which applies to both homicides.

“One thing I would stress and we’ve stressed it often, but it still has not changed. If you have a conflict, use conflict resolution,” said Weilhammer in February 2024. “If you can’t work things out without resorting to violence, then turn and walk away.”

Singh agrees with police and wishes the shooting on his property had never happened.

“This is something which should not happen anywhere, but we are not living in a perfect world and it could have happened anywhere,” said Singh.

Ultimately, it will be up to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to decide whether or not criminal charges will be filed for Hahn’s homicide.

Anyone with information about this incident should call Detective Christopher Morgan at the IMPD Homicide Office at (317) 327-3475 or e-mail the detective at Christopher.Morgan@indy.gov .

Alternatively, they can call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477 or (TIPS) to remain anonymous.
