70-year-old Muncie man charged with molesting young girl

MUNCIE, Ind. — A 70-year-old Muncie man has been arrested and faces a felony charge after a young girl told police he had molested her.

Richard L. Wolfe was arrested Thursday by Muncie police and charged with child molesting – a Level 1 felony. The arrest comes after DCS received a report that a young girl had been molested by Wolfe.

The DCS report was filed on Sept. 7 after the 4-year-old girl told officials that Wolfe sexually violated her and touched her private parts. The victim in the case is under 5 years old.

Further interviews were conducted by police and, on Oct. 17, Wolfe was brought to City Hall for an interview. During the interview, Wolfe offered two explanations for the accusations:

• He touched her private areas while helping adjust her swimsuit bottoms
• He accidentally touched her private areas while rubbing her leg

Wolfe told officers he was “upset” when he accidentally touched her privates while rubbing her leg, stating it is a “rule” that the girl must wear shorts over her underwear whenever she wears a dress. No explanation for this rule was provided.

Despite Wolfe’s excuses and explanations, police arrested the 70-year-old. He was subsequently booked into the Delaware County Jail where he is now being held on a $50,000 bond.

Official charges have not yet been filed against Wolfe in Delaware County. Online court records have not yet been updated to reflect an initial hearing date in his case.

Criminal records show that Wolfe has an extensive history of felony charges in and around Muncie. Since 2006, Wolfe has been charged in Delaware County with several counts of dealing controlled substances, possessing narcotics, dealing sawed-off shotguns and more.
