INDIANAPOLIS — Police found two people with gunshot wounds in a car in downtown Indianapolis Friday afternoon.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were called to the intersection of 10th Street and St. Margarets Drive just before 2:30 p.m. on a report of a personal injury crash. In addition to IMPD, police from Indiana University Indianapolis and Eskenazi Hospital also responded to the scene due to its proximity to both campuses.

Upon their arrival at the scene, police located two individuals — who investigators believe are adult males — with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds inside a car.

IMPD reported that both individuals were transported to Eskenazi Hospital. Police initially indicated that the victims were in serious condition. During a media briefing, however, they clarified that both victims are in critical condition.

Investigators believe the car the victims were found in was travelling eastbound on 10th Street before it veered off the road. Police think the shooting may have unfolded inside the car. Officers have not yet found any evidence that indicates any other parties or vehicles were involved in the shooting.

During its investigation, IMPD located at least one firearm at the scene. IMPD also reported that neither IU Indianapolis nor Eskenazi Hospital were placed on lockdown during the investigation.

Police are encouraging those who may have information on the shooting to call IMPD at (317) 327-3475 or Crime Stoppers Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.

As of this article’s publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
